Dance ShowsThis week it is Jive and Quickstep! Both are incredibly hard dances for such new dancers. It probably be a very challenging week for most. They have about 4 days to get these routines down.
First couple is up, Maksim and Hope doing the Jive. Her legs are not high enough, not as good as week one, the form was not really there, The costume was good, the energy and connection was there, but technique and tempo were a bit off.
Kristen C. & Mark are up next doing a Quickstep. Let see if Mark is outdances his partner this week. Crisp legs on both, good following, some mistakes, Mark had a flip at the end - guess he couldn’t resist a little showing off. Not bad overall, better than the first couple up this week. It would seem that her stamina was running low.
David and Kym are up next doing a Jive. Great heel slide to start it off. He has a good connection & energy with Kym, but footwork technique is off, & needs to keep his thighs together. I didn’t see enough Jive to see it, but the dance/song was very fast.
Elizabetta & Val are next performing the Quickstep. She is stiff to start at the dance. She needs to relax. A slight slip up in the middle, but she started to get it back as the dance went on. A nice improvement compared to week one.
Rob & Cheryl are on the floor next doing the Jive. So far the best couple on the floor tonight. Cheryl put together a nice routine for Rob. They danced well together, and were synced up pretty good. Good confidence level. Nice tumble roll on the end. Still need to work on the connection with the audience a bit more. Better than week one good improvement.
Carson and Anna are up. They have the Quickstep. Carson has to dance to her leg length since he his taller than she is. The timing was off a bit, he needs to striaghten his toes more, there seems to be some pigeon toes happening there. Very little connection between them, she was basically leading him.
Ricki & Derek are performing the Jive. Great energy between the both of them though she needs more leg action. Derek was dancing a bit over her level. Good hip technique and tight turns. Her weight was in a good place to that very cool back dips. She had fun and looked sexy, but I would like to have seen more leg action, with higher knee. Another top performance of the night.
Chaz & Lacey performed the Quickstep. He has good weight, but missing some technique and is making mistakes with the footwork. This is a hard dance. His painful knees didn’t help. He was not fast enough to keep the footwork at correct tempo. He was not as good as week one.
Chynna & Tony danced the Jive. As the leaders from last week, this routine is not challenging enough. First off, her knees were not high enough for techingue of the Jive. She had have a great connection with Tony, and the crowd, but the dance was weak for her. She was better last week, but as Carrie said, she was dissapointed that she looked like she played it safe. Tony did a great job with the routine though.
Next up is Nancy & Tristan dancing the Quickstep. Better than week one, she was a bit nervous again. She needs to let go, and have some fun. The footwork had a a couple little mistakes, but overall was good-footwork and technique was better. The connection with Tristan was very good, and she is learning how to follow better. Nancy is the most improved of the night by far.
JR and Karina finish up the night with the Jive. Love the costumes, Karina looks amazing as usual! Right out of the gate with great energy, and finally someone using the correct height of the knees that are needed for the Jive! The best performance of the night, Could use a bit more Jive patterns and connect as a couple. It was a bit of swing more than Jive, but still my best pick to win this so far. The crowd connects with him. Great Job.
Rob and Nancy were the most impoved of the week. JR and Karina were the most entertaining. Chaz and Lacey suffered the most this evening.
My pick of the week week is JR!

Dance Shows2011 Dancing with the Stars - Week 1
The stand outs this season, in our opinion are as follows:
JR - excellent Viennese Waltz and what a touching story. He’s bound to capture the hearts of America with his bravery on and off the dance floor.
Ricki Lake - Derek’s back and what a truly great teacher and dance partner. He dances to showcase his partner, keeping her on time, balanced and in the moment. Ricki looked very comfortable on the dance floor.
Chynna - pure elegance and great poise thanks to another great teacher and dance partner.
We have one major gripe with Mark Ballas. When will he learn not to “outdance” his partner? There is nothing worse than seeing a new dancer on stage trying to keep up with his over the top moves. Frankly, its embarrassing to watch him outdance his partner every single week.

Ballroom Dancing TalkHere is a place to discuss dance related info, Ask the instructor Questions, and so on. So here I go.
What intrested you to look into dancing, and why?
For me, it was a bit of a family issue, mom taught when she was younger for AM, and my dad later in his life at the community college. As a young man there weremore women than men in the classes , so I got dragged to class for a short bribe from my father. The big reason, my partner, she loves to dance and any man she was going to be with needed to learn to love dance too. I did. We quit our management jobs and became AM dance instructors in hopes of buying a franchise. Short decade later, we are in Cape Cod starting Ballroom Bliss.
